The state of Palestine

Every time I hear international diplomats and American politicians claim that a Palestinian state is but a dream, and one a long way off, I realize how disingenuous they are.

They do not believe it.

Palestine has been a passionate dream of Israel’s enemies for some time. And Israel’s enemies are often wearing suits and appear reasonable. They are as dangerous as Hamas and Al Qaida.

A year ago, former French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner floated the idea that France would recognize a Palestinian state. It is being said publicly that European countries will not, at this time, go ahead and recognize such a beast. Yet one has trouble believing them. It was recently reported in the Jerusalem Post that Britain could join the French and Spainin “upgrading the Palestinian representation there from delegation to mission status.”

The Europeans are thirsting for the chance, the moment, to recognizeIsrael’s mortal enemy, on the steps of Jerusalem.

As we move forward, into a future that scares most people, it is clear that worldviews will clash more and more. I hope I’m wrong, but the prospects of Bible-believers becoming a smaller and smaller minority seem strong on the horizon.

The Book of Joel tells us that the day of the Lord is coming. I believe that is literally coming; it is on the horizon. The prophet says that the Lord is “jealous” for his land.

In Joel 3, we learn that in that day, the Lord will bring “all” nations (meaning, all) to a great valley of judgment, and they will be judged specifically for how they treated Israel. Very specifically, they will be judged for dividing the land.

Gershom Baskin is an Israeli writer who believes the two-state solution is the only viable option, long-term. But in his assurance, and in the assurance of others, like that of politicians and diplomats, we must understand that such an option is indeed not a foregone conclusion.

Israel’s military is strong and the status quo can go on for quite some time. In fact, one can argue that it will be the status quo in the Arab-Israeli conflict—which the left hates—that will trigger the great end-times battles that Scripture describes.

If Jerusalem is shared, and Palestine is established, why then wouldJerusalem need to be attacked?

No, just because we hear Europe chattering about establishing a Palestinian state, we shouldn’t worry in any case. It could very well be that Palestine will never exist, but will come closest to existing, on the steps of the battle for Jerusalem, as described in Zechariah.

We must come to grips with the fact that even certain American politicians loathe the fact that Israel exists. They want to impose their will that Palestine will also exist.

Joel anticipated all this.
