The God Who Answers by Fire

fireEveryone today from film actors to politicians to the “average person” is looking for the meaning of life.

It has been this way always for humans.

We all want relief from life’s burdens. We sometimes feel our head is in a vice. The twenty-first century is…challenging. Relationships blow up or become long-term conflicts. Finances terrify us: will the economy collapse? Can I pay my bills? What if my health fails?

To cope with these challenges, people seek answers from many sources: spirituality, health and fitness, antidepressants, counseling, drugs and alcohol.

What happens when you die?

Where did you come from?

Why are you here?

All questions that humans ask at one time or another.

Millions of people believe in God. Millions of people don’t believe in God.

So how do we cope? The answer is, often we don’t cope very well. Or at all.

It is our contention at Prophecy Matters that it is possible to understand what life’s all about, and it is possible to know God. We believe He reveals Himself in the Bible, particularly through the fulfillment of predictive prophecy.

In the Book of First Kings, in the Bible, we read the story of the Jewish prophet Elijah and the pagan priests of Baal. They had decided on a “contest” to see whose God was real.

They built an altar of stones on top of a mountain. The priests of Baal went first, calling on Baal to reveal himself. Time went by. Silence. Finally, exhausted, they yielded to Elijah. The prophet upped the ante, calling for water to be poured over the altar and the wood on it. He looked toward heaven and called on Jehovah to reveal himself.

Fire flashed from the sky and consumed not only the wood on the altar, but also the stones! Many believed in this God who “answered by fire.”

You might be a skeptic, or you might be a believer. You might even be a believing skeptic! Don’t laugh, Jesus encountered just such a man, and the story is found in Mark 9:24, in the Bible.

Basically, at Prophecy Matters, our entire focus comes down to this one question: If the Bible were true, what would we expect to see in the real world today?

Some scholars, social commentators, entertainment figures — even some religious leaders — claim that the Bible is not true. They say it is myth, legend, symbolism, metaphor…but not literal history. And, they claim, it is certainly not a communication from God. They especially scoff at the idea of predictive prophecy. They say the Bible was written by humans, and is explained as evolving spiritual consciousness.

It is also said, constantly, “you can’t prove that God is real,” or, “You can’t prove the Bible is true.”

Of course you can! We hope you come to see the same thing.

The only reason any of this matters is that at some point, YOU will face an obstacle in life that threatens to destroy you. It might be anything: the aforementioned economy, or your health, or something else. It might be a life-long dread of your own impending death, whenever that might be.

But at PM, we believe you can find peace. Why?

Because of this:

In the Book of Matthew, the eleventh chapter, Jesus said to all of us, If you are tired and weary and burdened, come to me and I will give you rest for your soul.

Wouldn’t that be great? Wouldn’t it be wonderful to really know that that is true?

If you are skeptic — a college professor, attorney, plumber, interior designer, factory worker, whatever — you can come to this site and find articles and commentary that can point you to God. You can do this in the privacy of your home or office and not worry about what your colleagues or co-workers or family and friends think of you. Then you can make up your own mind. Then you can decide whether you can in fact find rest for your tired soul.

We will provide many evidences and resources to help you find God. For now, as an introduction to the Prophecy Matters site, we’ll just list three fulfilled prophecies that should get you thinking. These are things we’ve discovered that frankly blew our minds. These things proved to us that God is real, and active in the world today.

To get us started on a journey of discovery:

• In the Book of Exodus (chapter 14), God tells the Israelites, who are leaving Egypt, that they will observe “Passover” forever — all the generations that come after them will remember the night that God delivered from slavery in Egypt.

Interestingly, many skeptics and Bible critics today say that the Exodus never happened. But how do you explain the following?

For the last 3,700 years, Jews all over the world have observed Passover, every year. The thing that makes this most interesting is that even secular Jews observe Passover.

Why?

We believe that clearly, Passover is observed simply because God said so. That means that the Exodus happened, and that it was real history. More importantly, it reveals a Being that is beyond our world. He is infinitely intelligent, and He reveals His character to us in the Bible. He alone guides history and people. Passover is a marvelous example of fulfilled predictive prophecy.

• In Isaiah 51, there is an intriguing (though fairly obscure) prophecy related to Israel’s physical and spiritual redemption in the last days of world history. God says of the Jews:

“There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she hath brought forth; neither is there any that taketh her by the hand of all the sons that she hath brought up.” (Isaiah 51:18).

What makes this particularly interesting is the fact that since Israel’s founding in 1948, she has been led by many capable men (and one woman, Golda Meir). Most have been seasoned diplomats, accomplished businessmen in private life, and several have been decorated members of the Israel Defense Forces.

David Ben Gurion led the fight for the establishment of the state for many years, and as the country’s first prime minister, oversaw the growth of a tenacious, stable nation.

But he couldn’t bring Israel peace with her Arab neighbors.

In recent years, capable men like Yitschak Rabin, Ehud Barak, Menachem Begin, Shimon Peres, and Benjamin Netanyahu have attempted to bring peace to Israel. Each attempt has failed. Why?

Because God said that it would be so. He tells us that in Isaiah 51:18.

• In Zechariah 2:4, a prophecy is given that says in the last days, Jerusalem shall be inhabited “as villages without walls.” That was a crazy idea in Zechariah’s day, as bandits, wild animals, and conquering armies were all threats to anyone not dwelling behind a thick, high wall.

Yet in the mid-nineteenth century, a wealthy Jewish gentleman provided funding for houses to be built outside Jerusalem’s ancient city walls. He envisioned the city becoming a sprawling metropolis, which it has become.

This is a remarkable fulfillment of prophecy, given thousands of years before its fulfillment. We can find the reality of God through the fulfillment of predictive prophecy.

Come with us and discover this God who answers by fire.

These and many, many other prophecies show us clearly that God exists, and that He is involved in our lives. Come along with us at Prophecy Matters and discover this God for yourself.

Salvation Message:
God created the world and loves that which he created. So much that he all he wants is to be near his creation. He even lived on Earth in a Tabernacle and later on the Temple. God is holy and he told his people, the Jews, just how to build the Tabernacle and Temple in such a way that it was holy enough for him to live there. God’s people became sinful and forgot to keep his Earthly home holy and he had to leave Earth and return to Heaven.

God’s people do not live just in Jerusalem anymore, they live everywhere. God’s new home is in our hearts. Our hearts are not holy enough for God to live there. So God sent his son Jesus. Jesus suffered, died, and now sits on the right hand of God. We can never be holy enough to sit at God’s right hand. But we can cuddle up to Jesus, that’s the closest proximity to God as we can get. That is why we must invite Jesus into our hearts. That is the only way that we can be holy enough to enter Heaven where God lives.

John the Baptist not only made a path with his words announcing the coming of Jesus, but he revealed the secret for us to make a path for Jesus to enter our hearts. You cannot make your heart Jesus’ home without making a path first. He told us we can make a path by repenting. Now a foolish person thinks that they are a good person and that there is nothing they need to repent of. A foolish person thinks that repentance is just for people who have done bad things. A foolish person thinks that they can have Jesus in their heart by doing good things throughout their life and can earn their way to heaven. That God will see them as good and will allow them into heaven. But the Bible clearly tells us that we must make a path first (repentance) and that the only way we can enter Heaven, is through Jesus.

Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near!!

Amen! The Bible is very clear that there is only one way for a person to be saved and that is simply for one to choose to have faith alone in the God-Man Christ alone. There is no other way for one to be saved.

Acts 16:31 Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.
